FIKE 2008 - Évora International Short Film Festival will take place from November 21st to 29th, 2008

The registration for the pre-selection implies the acceptance of the present Regulations
1. Conditions for pre-selection
- Are eligible for competition, short films under the following categories: Animation, Documentary and Fiction, with total running time up to 40 minutes (including credits), produced after January 1st, 2006
- Formats admitted: 16mm, 35mm and Video (Betacam SP or DVCAM, only in PAL system).
- All the works must be subtitled in English or French.
- There is no limit to the number of works that each director/producer can send to the Festival.
- Participating in the Festival is free.
- The awarded films must remain on the Festival for 5 screenings.
- One online registration form has to be filled for each film presented to Festival. After completing the registration, the form should be printed, signed and sent to the Festival Organization (the on-line system will ask you to print the form when completed) along with:
- Film technical data
- Two stills (high definition pictures in a CD, properly identified)
- Brief Director's bio-filmography, including contacts and birth date
- List of Festivals in which the film participated
- Dialogues list in the original language and in english. (simple text file, .txt)
- DVD with subtitles in English or French
- Authorization from the rights owner (producer or director) for using the film in the Festival and Festival promotion
- Press Kit
2. Special Competition
FIKE 2008 will have a Special Competition, under the theme of Wine & Food.
For the Special Competition, will be accepted films produced after January 1st, 2005, under the categories of Animation, Documentary, Fiction and Experimental Films and with total running time up to 40 minutes. All the films presented to the Special Competition will be screened exclusively on Video and must be subtitled in English or French.
Films in the Special Competition may enter the International Competition, as long as they fulfill the requirements, according to the general Festival's Regulations.
3. Participation Conditions
The films in competition will be presented in Évora from November 21st to 29th, 2008.
Participation in the Festival Workshops, paid or free, is dependant upon approval by the Festival Direction, all works produced in the Workshop are property of both the Festival and their authors. Any usage of these productions must be authorized in writting by the Festival.
4. Deadlines
- Sending copies to pre-selection: June 30th, 2008
- Notification of selection decision: October 1st, 2008
- Exhibition copies acceptance: up to 8 days prior to respective Competition
- Devolution/forwarding of exhibition copies: December 15th, 2008
5. Awards
All the awarded films will receive a Trophy and a Diploma
International Competition:
- Best Fiction
- Best Documentary
- Best Animation
- Best European Short-Film
- Super-Short (up to 5 minutes running time)
- Audience Award
Special Competition:
- Best Film
National Competition:
- Best Portuguese Short-Film
- Best Portuguese Expression Film
- Revelation Award
Don Quijote Award:
- The Jury from the International Federation of Film Societies will choose the Best Short-Film, to which will be awarded the Don Quijote Award, which guarantees the selection of the film for the International Festival of Film Societies, to take place in Italy on June 2009.
6. Jury
Festival Jury
The Festival Jury will be selected among Film Professionals and Specialists that will be responsible for the choice of awarded films in the different categories. The list of members of the Jury will be posted in the Festival Website in due time. It is reserved to the Festival Jury, the right not to award on any competition, as well as decide on delivering Special Mentions. Special Mentions' decisions must be unanimous.
IFFS - International Federation of Film Societies Jury
The IFFS Jury will have 3 members, who will be selected by the IFFS, being one member Portuguese.
7. Important Arrangements
The Festival Sponsors may also include money, equipment or services in the awarded prizes, the possibility of acquisition of television rights or exhibition in digital platform.
All Directors and team members of the participating films are invited to the Festival, with free access to all activities and special conditions to hotel and meals.
The FIKE Awards will have exhibitions in the week following the Festival.
All films presented in the Competition will be covered by special insurance from its reception until its return/forwarding.
All DVD sent to the pre-selection will not be returned and will integrate the FIKE archives, being its promoters authorized to its use for cultural or educative purposes. They will only be returned to the sender if clearly requested, by written statement upon registration, being all return costs on addressee's account, which must supply packaging and mailing stamps for devolution.
Film excerpts may still be used for Festival promotional purposes as well as its use on the Internet, publicity or other media. To any other use the Festival will require written authorization from the copyright owner.
8. Notes
- Any material sent by e-mail will not be accepted.
- All materials to pre-selection will be sent on sender expense and free of all responsibilities to the Festival (mail or customs).
- All materials sent on charge will be rejected.
- All materials sent must contain the following mention: "SEM VALOR COMERCIAL, PARA FINS CULTURAIS / NO COMMERCIAL VALUE, FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES" and no declared value for customs. The packing must contain a pro-form invoice along with all materials needed for the pre-selection.
- The sender will pay for the films transport to the Festival, and the Festival will be responsible for its return.
- If the film will be represented on the Festival by its Director or other team member, the copy can be personally delivered until 24 hours before exhibition.
9. Exceptional Situations
The Festival Organization reserves the right to
- Make the necessary changes to the present Regulations, giving knowledge to all the interested parts.
- Decide on the acceptance of any film which does not fully comply with the present Regulations.
- Decide on unforeseen cases.
Any unforeseen situation on the present Regulations must be submitted to the Festival Organization for evaluation and decision, through the following address:
